Last month, we shared some details about the performance-tuned 2012 Hyundai Veloster that Hyundai brought to the 2011 SEMA Show in Vegas. But that wasn't the only impressively tuned vehicle the automaker unveiled last month.

The 2012 Genesis Coupe, now available at Gates Hyundai has already impressed us with its powerful 3.8L V6 engine. For the SEMA show, Hyundai teamed up with Magnuson Products, Rhys Millen Racing, Harman International and Torvec Inc., to push the engine from 306 to an amazing 450 horsepower, among many other modifications.

The retuned variant, The 2012 Hyundai Genesis Hurricane, has been in development for nearly two years. But it was well worth the wait! The secret to 450 ponies of power is the liquid to air intercooler. Other changes include an improved IsoTorque differential; DeatschWerks high flow fuel pump and 600cc injectors; Bilstein monotube shock absorbers and springs; SPEC lightweight single mass aluminum flywheel and stage two clutch; and a CPR Fabrication billet aluminum oil filter adapter.

The team worked to modify the exterior as well. It now features a new front bumper, grille, hood, 19-inch wheels, side skirts, diffuser and a new rear deck with a spoiler. Yes, it's awfully nice to look at, but Terry Peddicord, Director of Sales, Magnuson Products says, "One of the many exciting aspects of this project is that the Genesis Hurricane SC is not just another pretty face for the show circuit, but rather it is a hard working lab-rat that will push the bounds of this car and the whole vehicle segment."¹

David Dutki, Senior Engineer, Hyundai American Technical Center Inc (HATCI), says that the supercharged engine in the Hurricane "demonstrates the high-performance potential of Genesis Coupe's V-6 engine - the car was engineered to handle this kind of extra power. Our HATCI engineers have been working for years with Magnuson to ensure high engine outpit is available on future Hyundai vehicles."²
