What are the Different Types of Tire Pressure Monitor Systems?

Tire pressure monitor systems came into existence in 2008 and are required on every vehicle produced since 2009. Tire pressure monitoring systems alert the driver to low or high tire pressure. The law establishing the required tire pressure monitoring system was created due to the escalating incidents of tire blow out accidents due to low tire pressure and rollover accidents due to high tire pressure.

There are two types of tire pressure monitoring systems. There is the direct alert system and the indirect. The direct tire pressure monitoring system involves a sensor embedded inside the tire that continuously measures the air pressure. The indirect uses the anti-lock brakes system to monitor tire rotations—the lower the pressure, the higher number of rotations. The direct system is the prominent system used in the U.S.
