Brakes are one of your Hyundai’s most important safety features. Your car is known for its control and handling. Part of this control is due to its excellent braking system. Over time parts can become worn or damaged, and your need a brake repair at your Hyundai dealer. We’d like to share with you some signs that your brakes need to be fixed.

Pulling to One Side

When you hit the brakes, the calipers are forced against the rotors. Brake pads inside the calipers generate friction that slows and stops your car. Your braking system is synchronized, so all four brakes should engage simultaneously. If your car starts to pull towards one side when you brake, one of your brakes is failing.

The failure could be caused by a blockage in the brake hose or by a jammed caliper on the affected side of your car. In either case, if the brake doesn’t engage, your rotor will continue to move. Your car will automatically turn in the direction of the working brake. Our technicians will examine the fault and repair the problem ASAP.

Low Brake Pressure

The braking system is highly pressurized. This pressure is essential as the braking system must stop a moving vehicle weighing over 2,000 lbs moving at speed. When you step on the pedal, you’ll feel resistance from the pressurized fluid, and this resistance increases as you press harder on the pedal. If you feel little resistance from the pedal, this means there’s a problem in the braking system.

Several issues, including a damaged brake master cylinder, a blockage in the brake hoses, or a brake fluid leak, could cause a lack of pressure. If the master cylinder is damaged it may release only a limited amount of fluid. A blockage in one or more hoses will prevent the fluid from flowing freely. Finally, a leak will automatically lower the pressure as you lose fluid. Our technicians will examine the system to identify the specific problem.

Glazed Brake Pads

The brake pads provide the friction needed to stop your wheels from moving. They generate friction due to their special friction material covering. This covering can be damaged if one or more pads remain in almost constant contact with the rotors. This can occur due to a jammed caliper not retracting or if you’re riding your brakes.

Glazing turns the surface of a brake pad smooth. If a pad can’t generate friction, it won’t be able to slow or stop the rotor is connected to. The solution to glazed pads is to replace them immediately.
