3 Fishing Spots You Can Drive to Near Richmond, KY

Richmond, KY is a beautiful city that offers its residents a lot. From relaxing parks to heart-pumping outdoor fitness facilities, there is plenty to enjoy in the area. One of our favorite ways to enjoy the outdoors is to fish. Today, we're looking at our favorite fishing spots that you can drive to from the city. 1. Fort Boonesborough State Park One of our favorite spots to fish within driving distance of Richmond is Fort Boonesborough State Park at 4375 Boonesboro Rd. From this state park, you can access the Kentucky River and fish for catfish, bass, and an abundance of bluegill. If you're new to fishing or revisiting the pastime for the first time as an adult, you can rent a fishing pole from the grocery store at the campground. 2. Natural Bridge State Resort Park You also can't go wrong casting a line at Natural Bridge State Resort Park at 2135 Natural Bridge Rd. Natural Bridge State Resort Park is home to Mill Creek Lake, a beautiful lake that is packed to the gills with black bullhead, channel catfish, and rainbow trout. You can also catch green and longear sunfish, bluegill, black crappie, and bass. However, you are limited to keeping three 15" largemouth bass daily. Besides the fishing, we love Natural Bridge State Resort Park for its relaxing sky lift. This activity is available from the first weekend of April through the last weekend in October. The lift ends 600 feet short of Natural Bridge. 3. General Burnside Island State Park Finally, we cannot recommend General Burnside Island State Park at 8801 S. Hwy 27 enough. With a Kentucky fishing license, you can fish for smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, striped bass, and crappie. However, you can only keep crappie up to 10" long. You are limited to 15" in length for smallmouth and largemouth bass. You can keep two striped bass that are up to two feet long. Besides the delicious fish that can be caught here, there is a lot to love about this state park. Boating is another great thing to do here. Next to the park, there is a marina that offers rental slips and several types of boats for rent. You can launch a fishing boat from the six-lane boat launch ramp and spend an enjoyable day on the lake rather than on the shoreline. There are lots of great bodies of water to fish from in the Richmond area. However, they are inaccessible without dependable transportation, like a 2023 Hyundai Venue.
